Work&Teach helps get a different type of person into the classroom, on a part-time basis.
If you are interested in finding out more, please get in touch with your CV and a short paragraph about yourself and why you think you would be a great Work&Teach participant. We’re recruiting now for Phase One, commencing Tue 04 Jan 2011.
Capabilities
We are looking for high performing participants who can demonstrate that they can:
- Show commitment. Work&Teach participants will undertake a challenging initial training programme and have to adjust to the lifestyle of a portfolio worker. In turn their host school or college will need to prepare for and adapt to their involvement. To maximise the returns from this time and resource investment, successful participants need to commit to the scheme for at least four hours a week over one academic year (150hrs total).
- Be skilled communicators. Participants will need to be inspiring teachers and mentors if they are to communicate their practical skills and knowledge to both learners and other school staff.
- Be resourceful. Work&Teach participants will play an enterprising role across their school or college, helping to rethink the curriculum, design lessons and develop innovative new ways of working.
- Have strong networks. One key element of the role is to actively broker links between the school or college and local businesses, helping employers become more engaged, other staff to improve their skills and students to understand the world of work better.
- Be a mentor and role model. Participants will help build aspirations for their school by developing their mentoring, teaching and managing skills to support their colleagues and learners. In turn as they develop their own potential, they will bring invaluable soft skills such as coaching and mentoring back into their workplace.
- Have a strong understanding of their sector. Being able to teach cutting-edge practical skills and knowing what is prized within the sector requires that participants are both knowledgeable and experienced.
